I love nordic and scandinavian deco. I admire their elegance and
modern simplicity.
And what better to celebrate this that crocheting a a lovely
gnome for Christmas.
This is one Danish tradition that I am fully on board with, and
I’m so excited to share it with you.
Let's start!
WHAT YOU NEED / MATERIALS -
Cotton or Acrylic Yarn in 4 colours: White, Gray, Red and Beige or
Skin Color. - 3.0 mm Crochet Hook (Depending of your yarn) - Sewing Needle

Poly-fil or any polyester stuffing of your choice -
Scissors
STITCHES ch - chain sc - single crochet st/sts - stitch/stitches
sc inc - single crochet increase, 2 single crochets in one
stitch sc dec - single crochet decrease, single crochet 2 stitches
together
Pattern:
BODY Using white and gray yarns... Round 1
(White): Magic Ring with a base of 6 sc (6 sts) Round 2
(White): 2 sc inc in each st around (12 sts) Round 3 (Gray): [1 sc, sc inc] x 6 times (18 sts) Round 4
(White): [2 sc, sc inc] x 6 times (24 sts) Round 5 (Gray): [3 sc, sc inc] x 6 times (30 sts) Round 6
(White) : [4 sc, sc inc] x 6 times (36 sts)
Round 7 (Gray): [5 sc, sc inc] x 6 times (42 sts)
Round 8-17 (White - Gray): sc in each st around (42 sts)
Round 18 (White): [5 sc, sc dec] x 6 times (36 sts)
Round 19 (Gray): [4 sc, sc dec] x 6 times (30 sts)
Round 20 (White): [3 sc, sc dec] x 6 times (24 sts)
Round 21 (Gray): [2 sc, sc dec] x 6 times (18 sts)
Stuff firmly as you continue to decrease
Round 22 (White): [1 sc, sc dec] x 6 times (12 sts)
Round 23 (Gray): [ sc, sc dec] x 6 times (6 sts) Fasten
off and leave a tail to sew onto the hat.
HAT *
Using red... Round 1: Magic Ring with a base of 5 sc (5 sts) Round 2-3:
1 sc in each st around (5 sts)
Round 4: 1 sc, 1 sc inc, sc, sc inc, sc (7 sts) Round 5-7:
1 sc in each st around (7 sts)
Round 8: 3 sc, 1 sc inc, 2 sc, sc inc (9 sts)
Round 9-11: 1 sc in each st around (9 sts)
Round 12: [2 sc, sc inc] x 3 times (12 sts)
Round 13: sc in each st around (12 sts)
Round 14: [2 sc, sc inc] x 4 times (16 sts)
Round 15: sc in each st around (16 sts)
Round 16: [3 sc, sc inc] x 4 times (20 sts)
Round 17: sc in each st around (20 sts)
Round 18: [4 sc, sc inc] x 4 times (24 sts)
Round 19: sc in each st around (24 sts)
Round 20: [5 sc, sc inc] x 4 times (28 sts)
Round 21: sc in each st around (28 sts)
Round 22: [6 sc, sc inc] x 4 times (32 sts)
Round 23: sc in each st around (32 sts)
Round 24: [7 sc, sc inc] x 4 times (36 sts)
Round 25: sc in each st around (36 sts)
Round 26: [8 sc, sc inc] x 4 times (40 sts)
Round 27: sc in each st around (40 sts)
Round 28: [9 sc, sc inc] x 4 times (44 sts)
Round 29-32: sc in each st around (44 sts)
Check if the hat fits loosely and
feel free to do an extra round or two of sc if you want the
hat
to extend a little towards the face.
Cut the yarn and leave a tail to sew onto the body.
HAT DECORATION
Using white..
A nice detail are little white dots at the hat, so using your
sewing needle and embroidery floss, sew several
ramdom dots.
ARMS
Using beige and gray... Round 1 (Beige): Magic Ring with a base of
6 sc (6 sts) Round 2 (Beige): [1 sc, sc inc] x 3 times (9 sts)
Round 3 (Beige): sc in each st around (9 sts)
Change to color gray... Round 4-10 (Gray): sc inc in each st around (9 sts)
Leave a tail and cut the yarn.
Make two
BEARD
Using white embroidery floss:
Cut around 20 to 30 tails of yarn each of 5 inches (12 cm) long.
Tie them all together firmly using another tail at the middle.
NOSE Using Beige... Round 1: Magic Ring with a base of 6 sc (6 sts)
Round 2: 1 sc inc in each st around (12 sts) Round 3: 1 sc in each st around (12 sts) Round
4: 1 sc dec in each st around (6 sts) Stuff slightly, fasten off and leave a tail to sew onto the body
LEGS
Using Gray:
Chain 20 sts.
Cut the yarn and leave a tail to attach the foot.
Using Beige: Round 1: Magic Ring with a base of 6 sc (6 sts)
Round 2: sc inc in each st around (12 sts)
Round 3: [1 sc, sc inc] x 6 times (18 sts) Round 4: sc in each st around (18 sts)
Round
5: [1 sc, sc dec] x 6 times (12 sts)
Round
6: sc dec in each st around (6 sts) Fasten off and leave a
tail.
Tie both the leg chain and the foot.
ASSEMBLY
1. Attach the beard at 16th round of the body.
2. Then attach the nose over the beard and crossing the body
firmly.
3. Fasten off the arms on the sides of the body.
4. Sew the hat making sure to cover the arms and little of the
nose. 5. Trim the bear so it looks nice and even.
6. Tie the legs below the bear.
That's it! You're ready to go!
